Coffee Made From Mushrooms

Being able to start a blog talking about coffee is such an amazing thing and doing so I’ve been able to experience all kinds of coffee brands and ingredients and in today’s blog post I get to share my experience with adding powdered mushroom to my coffee.

Mushroom coffee is a mixture of ground coffee and powdered mushrooms. The mushrooms differ from what would normally be used in meals. A distinctive mellow earthy taste can be expected when brewed with coffee.

Mushroom varieties include Chaga, Cordyceps, Reishi, Lion’s mane, and Turkey’s tail.

Is It Good For You

With this combination of coffee and mushrooms it most certainly is good for you. Coffee can help you feel less tired and increase your energy levels because of the caffeine.

When the caffeine hits your bloodstream it then travels to your brain which can improve various aspects of functions including memory, mood, energy levels, your reaction times, and mental function.

That’s even before I get to mention the addition of mushroom in the mix.  We know that coffee alone has more than a thousand antioxidants in it’s unprocessed state and hundreds more are developed during the roasting process.

So what happens when we add mushrooms?  Well first you need to know which kind and according to WebMD the most popular mushrooms type used in coffee are:

  • Reishi
  • Chaga
  • Lion’s mane
  • Cordyceps

All of these have major antioxidant properties as well. So experts believe that Mushroom Coffee can provide antioxidants that support your immune system and brain function which makes this a great choice of beverage.

Should You Have This All The Time Now

That’s truly up to you if you enjoy the taste and there’s no reason why you can’t. However I’m always mixing and matching different flavors every month and at this time I’m going with a light roasted coffee.

Choosing mushroom coffee it’s just going to be a preference and it’s up to you whether you enjoyed it enough to continue trying it but if you haven’t tasted it before, you at least deserve to give it a try.

I bought Lion’s Mane Nootropic Mushroom Powder from Amazon just so I could try this brew and it wasn’t bad.  Will I continue, no.  Only  because I enjoy the smooth Taste of dark roasted coffee with  2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed and sugar.

Final Thoughts

Don’t knock something until you try it.  While I mentioned a few different other types of mushrooms you could use I’ve only tried lion’s mane because I thought it was cool. It wasn’t a bad taste And I can also use the powdered mushroom to add to my teas and hummus.
